IVC Structure | The Ismaili Canada

OBJECTIVE
To modernize, and introduce consistency in, IVC structures and titles across the country

BACKGROUND

Results from national focus groups illustrated that IVC recruitment, retention, training and standard operating procedures could benefit from revisions in order to improve the organization’s relevance, appeal and level of engagement with the Jamat.

The National Human Resource Development (HRD) and IVC teams convened a collaborative session to discuss the preliminary findings. Each region was then tasked to garner feedback from stakeholders in their respective jurisdictions regarding potential changes within the IVC. The national teams re-convened several months later to discuss input from the regional IVC leadership along with the feedback from the initial focus groups.

In the 1990s, the United States’ IVC underwent a similar restructuring, implementing new nomenclature given the modern context. The changes resulted overall in positive feedback from IVC members nationally.

KEY CHANGES TO BE IMPLEMENTED

  • A member from IVC will be appointed to the National and each regional Council.
  • The titles Vice Major, Adjutant and Lieutenant will be replaced with Director, Associate Director, Program Managers, and Team Leads.
  • The titles Major, Captain and Vice-Captain will be retained. (These titles are also used by sports teams, airlines and in hospitality).
  • A strategic function arm will be created within each regional IVC, accountable to the Director
  • Support services (including special functions, human resources, communications) will be re-aligned to be accountable to the Director through an Associate Director of Support Services
  • Safety, security and access functions will be re-aligned to be accountable to the Director through an Associate Director of Safety, Security and Access
